Dean Jeffrey Hutter
Welcome to Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine

The dental profession offers greater opportunities than at any other time in its history. Science and technology provide us with new diagnostic tools, materials, and medicines that enable us to deliver better health care. Exciting advances in information technology bring positive and necessary changes to the way we educate the dentists of the future, and allow us to be even more responsive to the needs of our patients and communities.

In this spirit, the faculty and administration of BUGSDM continually take innovative steps to enhance the future of our students and of dental education and research.

Our philosophy of a "school without walls" involves removing the barriers that separate us from the community. This philosophy--whereby we partner with many community organizations and make service learning an integral part of our curriculum--allows us to serve our diverse community while providing our students with excellent academic and clinical training. We continually incorporate new educational technologies into the classroom, and also offer our students the choice of an electronic library as an alternative to traditional textbooks. Our graduates become leaders in the field--practitioners, researchers, and educators who stimulate the growth of the dental profession. We expect you, our students, to become lifelong learners, and we encourage you to view the school as your educational resource center throughout your careers.
