SDM OR 803 Craniofacial Growth and Development
This course offers a clinically relevant understanding of craniofacial growth and development for the orthodontist. Topics include how malocclusion develops and how growth can be modified during treatment of malocclusion. Attention is focused on growth and development of the face, the occlusion and the dental arches, and biomechanical strategies used to facilitate optimal growth outcomes. SDM OR 820 Orthodontic Documentation
This course is designed to provide the resident with the skills necessary to secure and prepare orthodontic records and to document comprehensively problems related to oral-facial health and malocclusion. Initial topics include intra- and extra-oral photography, impression techniques, model trimming, radiology techniques, and cephalometric analysis. Case write-ups are emphasized using the American Board of Orthodontics case presentation format. Dr Dietz. 1 cr, 1st and 4th sem. 20 hours

SDM OR 822 Surgical Orthodontics
Surgical orthodontic lectures and seminars discussing the diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment of dentofacial deformities. Emphasis is on differentiating skeletal from dental malocclusion and the application of orthodontic and surgical strategies for the most efficacious surgical-orthodontic patient care.

SDM OR 900 Histopathology of Tooth Movement
This course examines the relationship between the observed clinical events in tooth movement and orthopedic jaw movement and the nature of the associated physiological events. SDM OR 920 Seminar: Literature Review
A weekly seminar concentrating on critical evaluation of current and classical orthodontic literature. Provides residents with the foundation necessary to take the American Board of Orthodontics exam. Dr. Gianelly. 6 cr, 3rd and 4th sem. 90 hours

SDM OR 990 Research: Orthodontics
The Orthodontic CAGS program requires a research project be completed during the 25-month training program if a MSD, DScD or PhD academic degree has not been completed at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. The CAGS program research is guided by faculty and entails a critical review of the literature, developing a hypothesis, statistical analysis, and interpretation of data. A written research paper partially satisfies requirements for the CAGS. 2 cr, 3rd and 4th sem.

SDM OR 991, 992, 993, 994 Research: Orthodontics
