Course Description:

This program is separated into two parts.

Part I introduces the theoretical knowledge of Radiology in a very interactive and virtual environment.

Part II covers the practical clinic session which takes place in the facilities of Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. 

Dental assistants who successfully complete the E-Learning Course, Clinic and examination will be qualified to expose radiographs in Massachusetts in accordance with the regulations of the Board of Registration in Dentistry.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of Part I (Online Program), participants will be able to:

• Describe the properties of radiation and x-ray production
• Describe factors affecting image quality
• List proper infection control protocol for operatory and darkrooms
• Learn biological effects and ionizing radiation
• Describe proper technique and processing of film
• List common errors and methods to correct them
• Describe common quality assurance protocols

Upon completion of Part II (Clinic Session), participants will be able to:

•  Take satisfactory periapical and bitewing film
•  Properly process film
•  Mount and label radiographs
•  Be familiar with dental panoramic radiograph

This course is also an excellent review for those dental assistants who are planning to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) as well as for practicing Dental Hygienists who wish to update their skills in radiology.
