Improving oral health through programs that create a "pipeline" of underrepresented minorities and economically disadvantaged students, increasing their chances of acceptance into and success in dental school.

Boston Area Health Education Center (BAHEC)

During the school year and summer, BUSDM offers paid internships to BAHEC students interested in the health sciences. BAHEC is a branch of the Boston Public Health Commission that encourages underrepresented minorities and low-income students to consider a career in health care. BAHEC is part of BUSDM's New England Dental Access Project, a larger effort funded in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to expand access to dental care.

Several previous BUSDM BAHEC students have gone on to earn full scholarships to college.
