community service and patient care

The predoctoral program at BUSDM provides primary dental care to the local community and our extended community reaching as far as Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Faculty in the Department of General Dentistry supervise approximately 50,000 in-house patient visits per year through the primary predoctoral clinic. In addition, students provide specialty care for patients in our Predoctoral Endodontic Clinic and during rotations with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic and the Oral Diagnosis/Radiology Clinic and the Ambulatory Care Center, located at the Boston Medical Center hospital.

The Department of General Dentistry maintains programs that address the school’s mission of supporting community activities. The curriculum for predoctoral students includes rotations in the Applied Professional Experience (APEX) program and the Externship program.

The Department of General Dentistry is working with clinical services to meet the needs of underserved adults across Massachusetts who are no longer eligible for MassHealth, the Masachusetts Medicaid Program.
