Laboratory and Precious Metals

Laboratory Procedures

Prescriptions may be obtained for work that needs to be sent to the laboratory. All cases must be cleared by personnel in Room 406 before any work can be sent to the laboratory either internally or externally. Patients must have signed a contract. All balances must be paid according to the contract. All balances must be paid in full before any case is sent to a laboratory. The prescription must also be signed by an instructor and the Quality Assurance Faculty.

Flow sheets must also be turned in with cases to be signed for quality control before going out to the lab. If there is a change in the due date, or if the lab has any questions, students will be notified by the Clinic Finance Office. Students are not permitted to contact laboratories. Please give the lab at least two weeks to fabricate castings.

Gold Procedures (Casting)

Gold is issued to the student for prosthetic and operative procedures through the Clinic Financial Office in Room 406. Before gold is issued, patients must sign a contract for all dental work involving gold and must have:

1) Gold will be issued for full gold crowns, inlays and onlays if the procedure is paid for in full, and proper signatures are obtained from quality control and lab technicians.

2) Gold will be issued for a metal post and core if the contract involving the procedure is 50% paid.

Students should not invest any patterns before obtaining gold/metal.

Full payment must be made for all outstanding completed services before gold/metal will be issued.

Student must obtain a metal request form from Room 406 to be filled out with the following information: Student's name, patient's name, record number, type of gold, amount of gold, procedure, and date.

Gold will be issued for only one patient per student at one time and must be returned to Room 406 within three working days. The casting and button must be returned after cutting to be weighed prior to polishing and/or insertion. No gold restorations can be cemented in the mouth prior to completing the designated weigh-in procedures. Students will be financially responsible for all gold issued to them. Only gold issued from the finance office is allowed in patient treatment. The hours metal can be obtained are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
