Your valuable dental equipment, computer, and other personal belongings are at risk for theft. It is important that you secure your equipment and personal belongings at all times and to not leave valuable dental or computer equipment unattended for any period of time. It is wise to engrave valuable dental equipment with an I.D. number. This is of particular concern for dental handpieces. It is also wise to obtain equipment insurance. For a very reasonable price, you can obtain an insurance policy which covers your dental equipment against loss. In addition, you should contact your homeowners or renters insurance agent and be sure your computer equipment is covered by your existing policy or take actions to have it included. The University does not provide an insurance policy that would cover your computer. Don't leave your valuable dental equipment or personal property unattended or unlocked. Regarding handpieces: keeps a record of the serial numbers in a safe place. This information is critical if your handpiece is lost or stolen. It is your only proof of ownership. Engrave equipment with name and state license number. Should you be a victim of theft, report the incident immediately: Call Security at 638-4568. A Security Officer will come to the scene and help you complete and sign the "Police Incident Report." Notify your private insurance company of the incident. They will in turn contact the security office to obtain a copy of the report. NOTE: To file a claim, your insurance carrier may require that you submit a theft report to the Boston Police Department. Check with your insurance company about their requirements. Should you find a handpiece or any other valuable articles, turn it over to Security located in the first floor lobby of the building you find the item. If you can not go to the lobby call the Security Department at 638-4568 to have an officer dispatched to the area for pick-up. Make an effort to keep all areas secure in the school and protect your property. Lost or stolen equipment is not only a financial forfeit, it is also a loss of your valuable time. Suspicious Person or Activity Report any suspicious persons or activity to the Security Department immediately at 638-5000. |
